Juicy, sweet, and incredibly crisp. This Kenyan lot from the Gatomboya factory represents exactly why we love African harvests—complex fruitiness, vibrant energy, and absolute clarity in the cup.

Blackberries, vanilla, and crisp apple

This coffee is a true celebration of dark berries and high acidity. It’s an outstanding choice for filter coffee purists and fans of punchy, modern espresso alike.

  • Filter coffee: Expect vibrant notes of dark berries (blackberries, black and red currant), citrus, and sweet spices, all beautifully tied together by a vanilla sweetness.

  • Espresso: Get ready for a high, sparkling acidity dominated by blood orange, syrupy caramel, and the distinct crispness of a green apple.

From the hills of central Kenya

The coffee comes from the prestigious Nyeri region, nestled on nutrient-rich volcanic soils right between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains.

  • Gatomboya factory: Operated by the Barichu Farmer Cooperative Society, processing the harvest of around 950 smallholder farmers who often intercrop coffee with macadamia nuts and bananas.

  • Premium varieties: This lot is a careful blend of Kenyan varieties including Batian, SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11, ensuring an unmistakable flavor complexity.

Traditional washed processing

The classic Washed method gives this coffee maximum clarity, allowing its full fruity potential to truly shine through.

  1. Fermentation: Immediately after careful picking, the cherries are depulped, fermented overnight in water tanks, and thoroughly washed.

  2. Sun-drying: The clean coffee beans are then spread on raised African drying beds for 10 to 12 days.
